Abstract

This study investigates the role of TikTok live streaming as a communication medium in enhancing gameplay skills among Mobile Legends players at the Epic-Mythic level in Palembang, Indonesia. The increasing utilization of social media platforms particularly TikTok as tools for sharing strategic and educational gaming content has reshaped how players acquire and develop their in-game competencies. This research focuses on the official TikTok account @MPL Indonesia, which features professional-level live streams aimed at engaging and educating the Mobile Legends community. A qualitative descriptive methodology was employed, incorporating direct observation, in-depth interviews with selected players, and analysis of live stream content. The study is grounded in New Media Theory and the Uses and Gratification Theory, providing a theoretical lens through which to understand users’ media choices and interactive behaviors in digital environments. Findings reveal that TikTok live streaming functions as an effective interactive learning platform, facilitating real-time communication and knowledge exchange between streamers and viewers. This interactivity contributes significantly to players’ skill enhancement by offering exposure to gameplay strategies, tactical decision-making, and motivational cues from professional players. Furthermore, the development of a supportive online community fosters sustained engagement and a culture of continuous learning within the esports ecosystem.
