Abstract

Interpersonal communication is an interaction activity that we often encounter in
everyday life, one of which is the interaction between teachers and students. In this

communication of teachers and students in the formation of self-character by using
De Vinto's interpersonal communication theory and Self-Character. This study also
used a descriptive qualitative research method in which the researcher attempted
to describe and describe the object under study based on the facts in the field, the
data in this study were obtained using observational data collection techniques and
interviews with teachers and students at the Extraordinary Tuna High School.
Grahita by Mrs. Palembang. The results of this study indicate that interpersonal
communication as seen from the characteristics of effective interpersonal
communication, according to De Vinto, consists of Openness, Empathy, Supportive
Attitude, Positive Attitude, and Equality indicating that interpersonal
communication exists between teachers and students in The Tuna Grahita
Extraordinary High School by Mrs. Palembang in building self-character works
effectively on openness, empathy, supportive attitude, positive attitude but not on
